Now that our spring planting is finished, and summer harvest as well, I wanted to share some of the beauty that filled our garden this summer. This spring we planted: Carrots (first time), peas, spearmint, chocolate mint, peppermint, romaine lettuce, garlic, sunflowers, flowers, basil, garlic chives, parsley, and an assortment of house plants. Overall we did well, but we also learned quite a lot for next spring. First, they weren't kidding when they said to plant a ton of carrots (in a planter) and then thin them out once they sprout. Ours ended up stunted, twisted and absolutely delicious! Don't judge a carrot by its... wrinkles? Second, neighborhood cats will eat the garlic out of the pot after digging it up in the middle of the night. Thirdly, Sunflowers get REALLY tall... yeah... |
