It's Christmas time again... you know what that means, Crafty Christmas gifts! This year I am in the process of learning to crochet while also making really cute snowflake ornaments to send to friends and family. Below is my inspiration, yarn and tools, trials and a few finished products. I'll post an image of the final product once the fabric starch I ordered arrives and I can package them up all nice and cheery like! |
My inspiration came from Pinterest (of course) from an Etsy store by LyubavaCrochet. While these snowflakes are beautiful, I am a college student and strapped for cash (if you're not you should go support Lyubava and purchase her patterns!) So I did more research and found a different pattern set which can be found here on yarnspirations. This two are the patterns I will be using to create these lovely holiday gifts. Sammi and I traveled to our local craft store and hunted through the yarn depths to find this lovey Sunseeker yarn which is an acrylic/cotton blend with a few shiny tinsel like nylon threads running through it. I also picked up a 2.75 mm crochet hook and even though the yarn is a smidge heavier weight than recommended for the pattern I think it turned out great! Here is my first finished snowflake! This one took me about 2 hours to complete in a few sittings. I had to look up each stitch and how to read the patterns at every turn so my progress was relatively slow. I did speed up though and now working on my 4th snowflake of this pattern it only takes me 45 minutes per flake. | One of my least favorite parts of knitting/crocheting is always turning my yarn into a rats nest. I have HORRIBLE yarn hygiene and while I aim to improve in that area, I still need a lot of work. 6 hours of untangling and help from my fiancee later and I have 1 lovely ball of yarn and was ready to start! |
